September 23, 2006, Qufu and Santiago de Compostela signed an agreement as "International Friendly and Cooperative City".

Santiago de Compostela, the capital of the Galician Autonomous Region in northwestern Spain, is one of the three Catholic pilgrimage sites in the world. The ancient city of Santiago de Compostela was listed as the "World Heritage List" in 1985. With various Romanesque, Gothic, and Baroque buildings in the ancient city, it can be said to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
